HOW TO GET YOUR MUSIC HEARD

Getting your music heard is EASY.

Getting people to support your music career is HARD.

DOES GREAT MUSIC + PROMOTION = SUCCESS?

To get heard, inexperienced musicians often copy what record labels and major artists do, which is to pay for promotion.

And there are plenty of paid promotion services available to indie artists and bands. You can literally search 'How to get my music heard' and you'll find websites to promote your music, as well as promotional services that will guarantee to get your music heard. Some will promise playlist placements, others will send your music to record labels and industry professionals and there are ones that will grow your social media followers or get you played on the radio

...but do these services actually work?

The truth is yes, promotional services will deliver followers and streams.

...but it's a high risk investment.

First, if you’re considering hiring a PR firm or ad agency – DON’T.

They’re both really expensive and they won’t produce new fans, at least not enough fans to justify the investment. That’s because the function of PR and Ads isn’t to create fans, it’s merely to reach them. And if you don’t have an established fan base to reach, like major artists, your money is best spent elsewhere

Second, anytime you pay for promotion you run the risk of receiving fake followers and artificial streams. So if you pay a promotional service to help get you on playlists and that service or any of its curators use bots to generate streams, you can wind up having all your music pulled from services like Spotify + your music distribution account either frozen or closed. And the same can happen on social media channels.

That said, even if those follows and streams are from real people (not bots), it typically won't have a positive impact on your career.

WHY?

The truth is yes, promotional services will deliver followers and streams.

WHY?

APPLY TO MIC'S CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

BECAUSE MUSICIANS NEED TRUE FANS NOT FOLLOWERS IF THEY WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Musician73

Do you know why music promotion services only guarantee followers and streams?

...and not fans and sales?

Because they know simply 'Getting Heard' won't transform someone from a Follower > Fan > Supporter.

...because that sort of transformation takes time + hard work

So if music promotion doesn't create fans,

WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?

Musician81

...THE DIY OPTION?

DIY (Do it yourself) puts the control of getting heard in the musician’s hands and allows them to take 100% responsibility for their success.

However, the DIY route isn't all sunshine and roses. Yes, you save money and there's less risk, but it requires a lot of learningtime and hard work. The good news is, there are tools and resources specifically designed to help musicians as they develop their music career, which makes DIY a solid option.

Yet, although DIY musicians have access to all the tools they need to create and manage a successful music career, many of them lack business knowledge and experience. This makes all the tools at their disposal less effective and their career progression slower and more difficult.

To use an analogy, it’s like handing someone a hammernails, a saw and some wood and telling them to go build a house – some people might be able to do it, but most will fail and many will waste a lot of time and money trying.

SO WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?

No matter your talent, intelligence or self-confidence, every musician will feel lost, stuck and / or overwhelmed at some point in their music career.

...many have these feelings on a continual basis.

Yet, few ask for help because they feel the solution to their problem is as simple as paying for promotion, writing a better song or meeting the right person.

...but solutions are never that simple.

SO IF YOU'RE STILL ASKING 'WHY DO I NEED HELP?' HERE ARE JUST A FEW REASONS

➣ Because developing a music career requires knowledge and experience musicians don’t have.

➣ Because building an audience of true fans requires a marketing strategy that will transform people from a follower > fan > supporter

➣ Because earning an income from music requires both musical talent and business expertise.

➣ Because overcoming the psychological barriers that prevent a musician’s growth requires a community of unwavering support and encouragement.

➣ Because establishing a professional network requires connection and collaboration.

➣ Because navigating the complexities of the music industries requires expert guidance from a trusted source.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: OVERVIEW

Artists and bands accepted to our career development program receive a step-by-step career plan, administered by a career coach, tailor made to fit their personal needs and designed to help them achieve their professional goals.

Members then meet 1-on-1 with their career coach on a monthly or bi-monthly basis to discuss their progress, talk strategy and determine their next steps.

Between meetings, members can spend their time in the MIC Support Network, our online music community and workspace where they can get expert guidance and feedback, promote their music + shows, collaborate on projects + events, attend live trainings + workshops and receive all the support they need - or simply connect with our amazing members from around the world.

As our musicians encounter challenges and obstacles, we're there to provide them with the solutions or the help they need to overcome them,  so they continue on their path toward success.

HOW THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORKS

STEP 1: Apply to MIC's Career Development Program

Any musician or band interested in enrolling in our program must first fill out an application. Our artist application helps us get a better understanding of where you are at in your career, your needs and your career goals. Should you be accepted to our program, we will use that information to create your customized career plan.

STEP 2: Schedule an Artist Interview

Once you have submitted your application, someone from our team will reach out to schedule a 1-on-1 interview. The purpose of the interview is to get to know one another and to see if you would be a good fit for our program and artist community. We'll discuss your application, walk you through the phases of our career development process and explain the different programs we offer. And we'll finish by answering any questions you may have.

STEP 3: Acceptance

After you have completed the interview, if accepted to our program, you'll receive an email with your acceptance letter and instructions for enrollment.

*Please be aware to ensure our members receive the personal attention they need, spaces in our program are limited. As a result, if we're at full capacity and you are accepted to our program, you will be placed on a waitlist.

*Members on the waitlist will have the option of joining our private community where they can participate in our events and get access to our self-guided trainings.
